Filmed on location in Port Alfred, South Africa and Baton Rouge, Louisiana, BEAUTIFULLY BROKEN is directed by Eric Welch (DC Talk: Welcome to the Freak Show) and written by Brad Allen, Chuck Howard and Martin Michael (I Am Not Ashamed), along with Mark McCann (Harmony). It is produced by Allen, Michael and Howard, along with Lisa Arnold (Caged No More), Jarred Coates (God’s Not Dead), Michelle S. Duffie (War Room, The Shack), and executive produced by Randy Hartley (Through the Valley).
The movie also features title song “Beautifully Broken,” performed by three artists each lending their voice to a unique version of the song, which incorporates all three musical stylings. Grammy Award- winning country artist, John Berry, Dove Award-winning pop singer Plumb and Grammy Award-winning gospel artist CeCe Winans. The song is produced by award-winning producer, Chuck Howard, who also co-wrote the film.
The BEAUTIFULLY BROKEN cast includes Scott William Winters (Lethal Weapon television series, Good Will Hunting), Benjamin Onyango (God’s Not Dead, Inception), Emily Hahn (Toy Story 3, Fresh Off The Boat television series), Eric Roberts (The Dark Knight, The Expendables), Jessica Obilom (Trafficked), Caitlin Nicol-Thomas (Nashville television series), Alan Powell (Quantico television series), Eugene Khumbanyiwa (District 9), Tammi Arender (Pitch Perfect 2), and television personality Thomasina “Goo Goo” Atkins (Mary Mary series). Christian music legends Toby McKeehan and Michael W. Smith also make appearances in the film.
Since I’m buying a License, can we charge admission or Do I need a license even if we don’t charge admission?
A license is required for all public performances regardless of whether admission is charged or not. You cannot require an admission charge, but if you need to ticket the event for seating capacity purposes, you may create a ‘suggested donation’ ticket. Can we use clips from the film during our service and/or can we show clips on our website or on service physical media (such as DVD)?
You may use clips from the film during your church service in context of teaching or a sermon (including if you stream your service). However if you wish to use them on your website or in social media, they should only be in conjunction with promotion of your Beautifully Broken Movie Event or a church service connected to the story. The clips should be no longer than a full scene or 2-3 minutes…
A small group or ministry in our church is hosting the movie, do we still need a license?
Any showing outside of a private home requires that a license must be obtained regardless of the number of people attending the event. Movie license pricing is based on average weekly church attendance, not the event attendance. If your showing is not connected to a church, the standard license is required, regardless of the size of the expected audience.
I want to show a movie outside the United States, does this license cover other countries?
A Beautifully Broken movie event license is applicable to a church’s principle location venue, regardless of country of origin.
What if we didn’t purchase a license and unknowingly showed the movie?
Any organization’s public exhibition of a film without proper licensing is subject to steep and significant penalties through The Copyright Act (as much as $150,000 per exhibition). Even inadvertent infringers are subject to the Copyright Act. If your organization has unknowingly shown Beautifully Broken while not in copyright compliance, contact us directly to solve the matter 844-422-8259 to purchase a retroactive license.
